Why One Slab Can Play Three Games

The economics of court construction are simple once you see them. Excavation, sub-base, the post-tension slab, and the acrylic surface account for most of what you pay. Line striping is a small fraction of it.

That means adding a second or third set of multi-game playing lines to a pad you were pouring anyway is the cheapest square footage in the entire project. A basketball half court and a pickleball court overlay comfortably on a 30 by 60 foot pad, which happens to be the same footprint as a standalone pickleball court. You get two sports for close to the price of one.

Add volleyball floor anchors and you have a third. Add four-square striping near the surround and younger children have a game of their own that needs no equipment at all.

What separates a good multi-sport court from a confusing one is design discipline. Distinct line color differentiation is not cosmetic. If your basketball and pickleball lines sit in similar tones, the eye has to work during a rally, and players start second-guessing calls. We choose genuine contrast, manage dual boundary tolerances so neither sport’s lines are compromised, and use contrasting keys and borders so each playing area reads as its own space.

Common Problems We Solve

Anchors drilled into a cured slab

Retrofitted net posts and volleyball anchors drilled into finished concrete are a weak point. They work loose, they crack the surrounding surface, and the caps sit proud enough to catch a toe. We cast dual-purpose net sleeves and floor anchors into the slab during the pour, flush with the finished surface.

Portable nets scar the surface and never sit at the right height. Height-adjustable multi-sport net systems drop into the cast sleeves and set to pickleball or volleyball height without tools, in well under a minute.

Line sets that fight each other

Too many sports on too small a pad produces a court nobody enjoys playing on. We are honest about the limit. Two sports overlay cleanly on a standard pad, three works with careful layout, and beyond that you need a larger footprint.

Trying to squeeze full-size tennis in

Tennis is the one sport that rarely combines well. A 60 by 120 foot pad dwarfs every other layout, leaving the secondary sports stranded in the middle of an enormous slab. If tennis is the priority, build a tennis court and stripe pickleball on it. If it is not, leave it out.

Choosing the Right Combination for Your Family

The useful question is not “how many sports can fit” but “which sports will actually get played”. We start there.

Households with kids in primary and middle school tend to get the most from basketball plus pickleball. Basketball gets the after-school use, pickleball brings the adults out in the evening, and the changeover takes seconds. That is the combination we build most often.

Families who entertain often add volleyball. The anchors cost very little to cast during the pour and the net system stores in a garage. It converts a court into a party space without any change to the slab.

Larger properties in Prosper, Southlake, and Colleyville often go further: an oversized pad with zones that run simultaneously, so a pickleball game at one end does not stop someone shooting at the other. That needs real acreage, and we model the options against your lot during 3D design rather than assuming it will fit.

The Engineering Does Not Change

Multi-sport is a layout decision, not a quality decision. Every multi-sport court we build sits on the same engineered post-tension concrete slab as our tournament pickleball and ITF tennis builds, with moisture mitigation beneath it and a continuous 1% slope drainage plane across it.

The surface is the same 7-layer 100% acrylic system: adhesion promoter, resurfacer coats with graded silica sand for texture, colour coats, then the line work. The only difference is that the line work takes longer, because each sport’s lines are masked and applied in sequence so every edge stays crisp.

And the process is the same one crew from start to finish. The team that cuts the site pours the slab, rolls the acrylic, masks the lines, sets the goal footing, and fits the net system. One contact, one schedule, and about 25 to 30 days from groundbreaking to the first game.
